About Me

Hello,

My name is Kate Massicotte,

I am a Registered Social Worker with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers (OCSWSSW) and the Ontario Association of Social Workers (OASW).

I currently hold a Masters of Social Work Degree from Wilfrid Laurier (2021), an Honors Bachelor of Indigenous Social Worker Degree from Laurentian University (2020), and a Social Services Diploma from Confederation College (2010).

I have over 15 years of experience in the field of social work, specializing in supporting children, youth, and adults facing a variety of challenges.

In addition to my formal education and professional background, my own life experiences enhance my ability to connect with clients on a deeper, more personal level.

My approach to therapy is rooted in client-centered, strength-based, and solution-focused perspectives. I draw from a variety of therapeutic modalities, including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Solution-Focused Therapy (SFT), Mindfulness-Based Therapy, and Narrative/Talk Therapy, to help clients work through their challenges and move towards their individual goals.

My goal is to empower clients to heal, grow, and thrive by focusing on individual strengths while providing the tools and support needed to navigate each person’s unique challenges. I hold space with compassion, authenticity, and a deep respect for each person’s unique story. Creating a culturally safe and inclusive environment where everyone feels welcome, valued, and free to express themselves without judgment is at the heart of my work.

If you are interested in accessing my services, I am currently offering individual therapy virtually across Ontario and would be honoured to walk with you on your journey.

FAQs

How much does counselling cost?

Sessions are $165 for 50min and are due at the end of each session.
*Rate are set in accordance with the recommended fee range for social workers in private practice established by the Ontario Association of Social Workers.

I do not direct bill to insurance companies, but you may have coverage for counselling services through your insurance or benefit plan.

To determine what your coverage includes, I recommend contacting your insurance company and confirming the following:

  • Does your health insurance or benefit plan cover registered social workers with an MSW (Master of Social Work)?
  • If so, how much is covered per session? and is there a limit per year?

Cancellations made with less than 24hrs notice will be charged to the credit card on file at the full rate.

Your first session will focus on getting to know you, discussing your goals, and developing a personalized therapy plan.

I offer services that integrate elements of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Solution-Focused Therapy (SFT), Mindfulness-Based Therapy, and Narrative/Talk Therapy, tailored to your needs.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT):

CBT is a structured, evidence-based approach that helps you explore how your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors are connected. In sessions, we work together to identify unhelpful thinking patterns and develop practical tools to cope with challenges. CBT can be especially effective for anxiety, depression, and low self-esteem, and is adaptable for both teens and adults.

Solution-Focused Therapy (SFT):

SFT is a short-term, goal-oriented approach that emphasizes solutions rather than problems. In sessions, we focus on what’s working, explore your strengths, and identify small, achievable steps toward your goals. This approach draws from existing resources and helps you envision the changes you want to make. Solution-Focused Therapy can be especially effective for clients seeking clarity, motivation, or support through life transitions, and is well-suited for both teens and adults.

Mindfulness-Based Therapy:

Mindfulness can be integrated into sessions to help clients build awareness of their thoughts, emotions, and physical sensations in the present moment, without judgment. Mindfulness-based practices can reduce anxiety, improve focus, and support emotional regulation. For both teens and adults, this approach can be especially helpful in managing stress, overwhelm, and self-critical thinking.

Narrative/Talk Therapy

Everyone has a story, and sometimes, just having the space to talk it through can bring clarity and healing. In our sessions, we’ll explore the experiences, beliefs, and patterns that have shaped how you see yourself and the world around you. By reflecting on these stories together, we can begin to uncover new perspectives, shift unhelpful narratives, and support your growth toward a more authentic and empowered version of yourself.

The number of sessions varies depending on your goals and concerns. Some clients benefit from short-term support, while others prefer ongoing therapy.

As a Registered Social Worker, I am committed to protecting your privacy and confidentiality.

  • All information you share is collected and stored in strict compliance with Ontario’s Personal Health Information Protection Act (PHIPA).
  • All sessions are confidential but may be broken only in situations involving safety concerns or legal obligations.
